Binoculars come in two basic designs and many different sizes. If you are buying them as a gift, it is helpful to know what the intended recipient will be using them for.
There are many different factors to consider when purchasing binoculars. Two of the most important are expressed in the size of the binocular, such as "7x35" or "8x50."
The first number refers to the power of the binocular. A 7x binocular magnifies the subject seven times, and so forth. The second number is the diameter of the front lens, which determines the light-gathering ability of the binoculars.
